The author's descriptions are vivid. The writing is evocative. Much like Toni Morrison's The Bluest Eye and Bebe Moore Campbell’s What You Owe Me, Medley's creations create layered spellbinding stories about human behavior. They also provide safe havens to have serious conversations about relationships, integrity, faith, and even church!

The Prison Plumb LineA Lyrical Drama — edgy, educating, entertaining, and encouraging — is meant to open hearts and broaden perspectives. Charrisse Jackson-Jordan, philanthropist and cast member of The Real Housewives of Potomac will introduce and host this empowering production. The story highlights choice, second chances and change, and it features, again, Ayanna Gregory — vocal artist, educator, activist — the daughter of legendary activist, author and comedian, Dick Gregory. Also featured is the amazing artwork of visionary artist Wesley Bullock (his incarceration story and awesome talent were featured on NBC and in The Washington Post). Featured in the cast is a woman who walked this journey. Help us start her on a new journey! This Mission is real, not Memorex!
The novella, titled, The Prison Plumb Line, turned stage play, was inspired by the lives of five real female inmates.  My husband, Robert, and I have received recognition from The White House for our more than 20-year span of volunteerism behind bars. This production has also begun its journey, empowering, behind bars. The play hits the District, again, at THEARC located at 1901 Mississippi Ave., S.E., Washington, DC 20020 — on Saturday, August 27, 2016  — Reception at 7 p.m. // Showtime at 8 p.m. To view our 2015 trailer, click on www.prisonplumbline.com; // email us at prisonplumbline@gmail.com // or call 240.427.LJWG (5594). It was a Literary Celebration and a part of the Writer's Live! Series that took place on

Wednesday, November 13, 2013

6:30 - 8:00 p.m.

The front of the Central Library

Yvonne J. Medley discussed the riveting and personal backstory details—of her latest novel release, titled, Jubi Stone: Saved by the Vine, the prequel (released July, 2013, Kensington) to Medley’s debut novel, God in Wingtip Shoes (Released April, 2012, Kensington).

"Word on Jubi and Raising awareness about Domestic Violence, to which this novel is dedicated. Jubi Stone: Saved by the Vine addresses the Domestic Violence issue in several streams. During one of those streams the character, Jubi Stone, suffers a sexual assault at age 14 as well as an immediate devastating aftermath (an eight-month hidden pregnancy and a stillborn birth) That's my story. I've put myself out there in a way that I had never planned. I've dedicated this book to being a safe place to have serious conversations about faith, family, communication, church and sex (really, that's the point of everything I write, but this one takes it up a notch).  I am hopeful and prayerful to be informative, sharing, and to keep standing throughout this ongoing commitment. This one is personal! And it is my hope to give silent victims a survivor's voice." Yvonne J. Medley

The special evening also included a book signing and a dramatic skit of Jubi Stone's Chapter One, performed by Womb Work Productions, Inc. of Baltimore. And it all took place at the prestigious and historic Enoch Pratt Free Library.

Nineteen-year-old Jubi Stone in the midst of battle with her mother, the bewildered Esther.
Both parents, James and Esther, struggle to reason with Jubi, a drug addict, and now estranged from her loved ones.
